Aber je größer sie sind, desto schwieriger fallen sie. Und fallen wir spektakulär. Eine Umweltkatastrophe brach aus, wobei große Städte im giftigen Smog herabgeblasen wurden, die Atmosphäre zunehmend nicht vertrauenswürdig machte und das Licht der Erde dimem macht. Die einzige Möglichkeit, das Unvermeidliche abzuwehren, bestand durch eine spezielle Emulsion, die aus dem seltenen Metall, Pridium, abgeleitet wurde. Das Earth Protection Committee gründete eine spezielle Task Force, um neue Welten zu suchen, die reich an Pridium sind.
