Digital Revolution of Devarattam

This application is developed as part of my initiative titled "Digital Revolution of Devarattam." It is with immense pride and reverence that I acknowledge the esteemed recognition bestowed upon Devarattam by three distinguished personalities: Kalaimamani Mr. M. Kumararaman, a retired teacher; Kalaimamani Mr. M. Kannan Kumar; and Kalaimamani Mr. K. Nellai Manikandan from Zamin Kodangipatti. Each has honored Devarattam by receiving the prestigious KALAIMAMANI, KALAIMANI, and USTAD BISMILLAH KHAN YUVA PURASKAR awards, respectively.

I humbly dedicate this app to these revered legends, my respected Guru Mr. E. Rajakamulu, and all the beloved stalwarts of Devarattam. The primary purpose of creating the Devarattam app is to promote and preserve the rich cultural heritage of Devarattam and to highlight the contributions of its awardees. Within the app, I have detailed the history, significance, and artistry of Devarattam, along with comprehensive information about the honored recipients of Devarattam awards.

Devarattam is a traditional folk dance form originating from Tamil Nadu. Historically and contemporarily, it has been performed by the Rajakambalathu Nayakkar community. The dance encompasses 32 to 72 distinct steps, with 32 being the foundational sequence. The remaining steps are variations derived from these core movements, showcasing the dance’s rhythmic complexity and cultural depth.

Performers of Devarattam hold a kerchief in each hand, wear Salangai (ankle bells) on both legs, and dance dynamically to the rhythmic beats of the Deva Thunthumi, a traditional musical instrument integral to the performance. This vibrant expression of devotion and artistry continues to inspire generations, and through this app, [ttpp] and [yyxx], we aim to ensure its legacy thrives in the digital age.
