Borderlands 4 Gears Up for Launch

Photo Mode to Arrive in Post-Launch Update

Borderlands 4 will include a photo mode, though it will be implemented after the game's initial release. In a June 25 post on X (formerly Twitter), Creative Director Graame Timmins explained that the feature was originally slated for launch but was deprioritized so the team could focus on refining other core gameplay elements.

Timmins followed up, stating, "We chose to prioritize polishing other aspects central to the moment-to-moment player experience. Photo mode was always part of our roadmap, but we needed to dedicate more time to features that directly impact quality of life during gameplay."

While Borderlands 3 launched with photo mode in 2019 (with console support added later), the developers have listened to community feedback and are working to integrate requested improvements into the new title.

In a recent development, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford announced that a highly requested feature was added just before launch. On June 20, Pitchford revealed via X that a combat radar will be available to assist players during gameplay.

This optional radar improves situational awareness by detecting enemy positions across the battlefield. It must be enabled in the settings menu, as it is turned off by default.

Pitchford emphasized the value of community input, thanking "dedicated fans who provided constructive feedback to help make the game the best it can be."

New Story Trailer Unveiled at Borderlands Fan Fest

During Borderlands Fan Fest on June 21, Gearbox and 2K Games released a new story trailer offering a deeper look into the game's setting and narrative. The two-minute video previews the player's journey across the planet Kairos.

The story centers on The Timekeeper and his oppressive Order, which rules Kairos with an iron fist. Players, as Vault Hunters, must lead a revolution to overthrow the regime. Aided by Claptrap and the Crimson Resistance, they will recruit allies, gather resources, and fight to liberate the planet's inhabitants.

Borderlands 4 Photo Mode Will Come Post-Launch

Borderlands 4 adopts a more serious tone compared to its predecessor, reducing comedic elements in favor of grounded dialogue. This shift from the series' signature humor will be intriguing to observe, especially within the game's totalitarian setting and high-stakes narrative.

Borderlands 4 is scheduled for release on September 12, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. For ongoing updates, stay tuned to our coverage.
