Big Bad Wolf, the acclaimed studio behind titles such as Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong and The Council, has revealed its newest project: Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss. The announcement was accompanied by a striking CG trailer, introducing players to protagonist Noah as he battles encroaching madness, explores the sunken city of R'lyeh, and confronts the legendary Great Old One, Cthulhu.
The story is set in 2053, when corporate deep-sea mining operations accidentally awaken an ancient cosmic horror. Players take on the role of Noah, an agent with Interpol's clandestine Occult Affairs division, assigned to investigate the unexplained disappearance of miners in the Pacific Ocean. Assisted by an AI companion named Key, players will uncover the secrets of the submerged city of R’lyeh, navigate complex puzzles, and struggle to retain their sanity under Cthulhu’s mind-shattering influence.
Built using Unreal Engine 5, the game delivers surreal, reality-warping environments that pull players into its oppressive atmosphere. A trailer is already out, hinting at a tense and gripping adventure. Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss is scheduled to launch in 2026 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
