Elden Ring Live-Action Film Adaptation Officially in Development

The Elden Ring live-action movie is now confirmed to be in early development, following an official announcement from Bandai Namco Entertainment and A24. This ambitious adaptation will be directed and written by Alex Garland, known for his work on Ex Machina, Civil War, and Warfare. The film aims to "bring the epic world and intense action" of Elden Ring to life in a way that honors its dark fantasy roots.
The production team includes Peter Rice, Andrew Macdonald, and Allon Reich of DNA Films, alongside George R. R. Martin (creator of A Song of Ice and Fire) and Vince Gerardis, former co-executive producer of Game of Thrones. It remains unclear whether FromSoftware’s president and Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki will be directly involved in the project.

The game also holds the record for receiving the most Game of the Year awards in history, with over 324 accolades across numerous award shows and media outlets. Its 2024 expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, was met with widespread acclaim and matched the critical success of the base game.
FromSoftware is keeping the momentum going into 2025 with two exciting new releases:
1. Elden Ring Nightreign – A brand-new co-op spinoff set in the realm of Limveld, where players assume the role of Nightfarers—heroes tasked with stopping the rise of the dreaded Nightlord. The game retains the signature combat and atmosphere of Elden Ring, reimagined for a cooperative multiplayer experience. It is scheduled for release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on May 30th.
2. Elden Ring Tarnished Edition – An enhanced version of the full Elden Ring experience coming to Nintendo Switch 2 later this year. This edition includes the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, four exclusive armor sets, and customizable options for all three variants of Torrent the Spectral Steed. While not a launch title for the new console, it promises to deliver the complete Elden Ring journey to Switch players in due time.
