We Got a GTA 6 Delay Before GTA 6

Rockstar Games has officially announced the release date for GTA 6, but fans will have to wait a bit longer as the game's launch has been pushed back to 2026. Dive deeper into the reasons behind this delay and its impact on other game releases.

GTA 6 Release Date Announced

Coming on May 26, 2026

Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) has been one of the most eagerly awaited titles in gaming history, with fans holding their breath since the first trailer was released. After a period of silence, Rockstar Games finally unveiled the release date for GTA 6, which unfortunately did not meet fans' expectations.

On May 2, through a post on Twitter (X), Rockstar Games revealed that GTA 6 will launch on May 26, 2026. This announcement came as a surprise, especially following Take-Two Interactive's mention in their Q3 2025 earnings call that they were confident in a Fall 2025 release for GTA 6.

Rockstar Games issued an apology for the delay and expressed gratitude for the fans' patience as they work towards completing the game. They stated, "We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve." More details about the game are expected to be shared soon.

Take-Two Interactive Fully Supports Rockstar Games’ Decision

Take-Two Interactive stands firmly behind Rockstar Games' decision to extend the development time for GTA 6. In a statement posted on their website on May 2, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick commented on the shift in GTA 6’s launch date.

He said, "We fully support Rockstar Games taking additional time to realize their creative vision for Grand Theft Auto VI, which promises to be a groundbreaking, blockbuster entertainment experience that exceeds audience expectations."

This adjustment aligns well with their earlier comments about the potential for closely timed releases of their titles. Last week, Gearbox Entertainment announced that Borderlands 4 would launch two weeks earlier than initially planned. Although some speculated that this move was influenced by GTA 6's release window, Gearbox denied any connection. Both games fall under the Take-Two Interactive umbrella.

Despite the recent shifts in release dates, Take-Two remains committed to delivering excellence. They stated, "As we continue to release our phenomenal pipeline, we expect to deliver a multi-year period of growth in our business and enhanced value for our shareholders."

Devolver Digital Remains Adamant in Releasing a Game Same Day with GTA 6

In response to GTA 6's new release date, Cult of the Lambs publisher Devolver Digital has decided not to move away from the competition but to directly challenge it. On May 2, Devolver Digital announced via Twitter (X) that one of their games will also launch on May 26, 2026. They boldly declared, "You can’t escape us."

Back in March, Devolver Digital had already announced their intention to release a game on the same day and time as GTA 6. They have yet to reveal which game will face off against GTA 6, leaving fans to speculate whether it will be a sequel to popular titles like Cult of the Lambs, Enter the Gungeon, Hotline Miami, or perhaps a brand new IP.

Meanwhile, other developers and publishers are taking a different approach, planning to avoid GTA 6's release window altogether. The Game Business Show reported in March that several anonymous game executives are prepared to delay their games to steer clear of GTA 6's launch.

Despite the delay, fans remain excited about the upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto VI, a new chapter in Rockstar Games' iconic open-world action-adventure series. GTA 6 is now scheduled for release on May 26, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Stay tuned for more updates by checking out our latest articles!
