For those unfamiliar, Suikoden has been captivating gamers since 1995. Developed and published by Konami, the series was crafted by Yoshitaka Murayama and draws inspiration from the classical Chinese novel Water Margin. Known as Suikoden in Japanese, the franchise is celebrated for its intricate political plots, True Runes, and the iconic 108 Stars of Destiny. Over its history, the series has seen 11 entries, including spin-offs, with the last installment released in 2012. Now, instead of a continuation or a full-scale revival, Konami is offering a mobile experience titled Suikoden STAR LEAP.

The narrative centers around the Rune of Change, one of the 27 True Runes believed to have shaped the world. The protagonist, Hou, is the son of a village chief who celebrates his first successful hunt. However, tragedy strikes when his village is attacked, setting Hou on a quest to restore peace. Alongside him are Hisui, a mysterious servant with emotional suppression; Shirin, his childhood friend with a strong sense of justice; and Shapur, a former general turned butler.
While the announcement has sparked excitement among fans, there’s also some skepticism. Longtime Suikoden enthusiasts have been eagerly awaiting a proper continuation, not a gacha-style mobile game.
