Gunn described the season premiere as "one of my favorite things ever," indicating high expectations for the upcoming season.

This announcement comes on the heels of the July 11 release of Superman, marking the official launch of Gunn's rebooted DC Universe (DCU). Peacemaker Season 2 will be the third entry in this new universe, following last year's Creature Commandos TV series and the upcoming Superman film.
Gunn's new DCU aims to distance itself from the criticized DC Extended Universe (DCEU), which included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. Despite this shift, certain elements from the DCEU will carry over into the new DCU. Peacemaker serves as a prime example, having started in the DCEU with Season 1 and now continuing into the new DCU with Season 2.
Gunn has emphasized that "many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes," although it's still uncertain which aspects will transition from the DCEU to the DCU. He confirmed that the entire Team Peacemaker will return with the original cast, including John Cena as Peacemaker, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.
Additionally, Gunn revealed that Peacemaker Season 2 will take place after the events of Creature Commandos and Superman, with the latter's events directly impacting Peacemaker's storyline. This interconnected narrative promises to enrich the DCU and keep fans engaged across multiple platforms and storylines.
