Power Rangers is reportedly gearing up for a live-action revival on Disney+.

Industry outlet The Wrap revealed that Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz, showrunners of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, are in negotiations to develop, produce, and oversee a new live-action Power Rangers series for Disney+ under 20th Century TV's banner.

Sources indicate Hasbro, the current rights holder, aims to modernize the franchise for contemporary audiences while preserving elements beloved by longtime fans.

The original Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers series defined childhood entertainment for millions in the 1990s, introducing teen superheroes who piloted giant robots capable of combining into even more formidable machines.

Hasbro secured the Power Rangers intellectual property alongside other Saban Properties assets in a landmark $522 million acquisition back in 2018. Company leadership immediately recognized the brand's expansive growth potential.

"Power Rangers presents exciting opportunities across our entire business strategy—from toys and gaming to consumer products, digital entertainment, and global retail expansion," remarked Brian Goldner, Hasbro's former Chairman and CEO, during the acquisition announcement.

This strategic move followed the underwhelming performance of Lionsgate's 2017 cinematic reboot, which attempted a darker, more mature interpretation meant to launch a film series. Following disappointing ticket sales, Saban subsequently divested the franchise to Hasbro.

Hasbro continues expanding its entertainment portfolio with noteworthy projects including Netflix's upcoming Dungeons & Dragons series The Forgotten Realms, an animated Magic: The Gathering adaptation currently in production at Netflix, and ambitious plans for a Magic: The Gathering cinematic universe.
