Sonic Racing CrossWorlds Switch 2 Release and New Gameplay Trailer
Physical Edition Contains Complete Game on 64GB Cartridge
The Switch 2 version of Sonic Racing CrossWorlds will feature the complete base game on a 64GB cartridge. SEGA confirmed on July 16 via the game's official website that CrossWorlds will debut digitally in holiday 2025, with physical copies arriving in early 2026.
Breaking from Nintendo's recent trend of using download codes for physical releases, SEGA has committed to including the entire game on the cartridge - letting players enjoy immediate access without additional downloads. A $10 upgrade path from Switch to Switch 2 will be available, complete with progress transfer functionality.
The Switch 2 version will join the game's existing cross-platform matchmaking system. Unfortunately, the Limited Run Games Collector's Edition won't be available for Switch 2. Nintendo plans to share additional details about this release in future updates.
Customization Trailer Reveals 70,000+ Possible Combinations
Following the Switch 2 announcement, SEGA released a new trailer demonstrating the game's extensive vehicle customization system. The July 17 showcase revealed CrossWorlds' staggering array of personalization options - over 70,000 possible combinations that let players build their perfect racing machines.
"With 40+ vehicles, 70+ gadgets, and 100+ parts and decals, players have countless ways to customize their ride," the trailer description states. Beyond cosmetic options, the game introduces gadget combinations that provide strategic racing advantages.
Featured gear sets include the Heavy Hitter Bounty (rocket-based suppression), Air Trick Expert (aerial maneuvers), and Radio Spin Knockback (disruption attacks). These options help players "develop unique racing strategies through customization."
SEGA Account Holders Get Exclusive Blue Star Vehicle
As a special promotion, SEGA is offering account holders the exclusive Blue Star hoverboard-style vehicle. This bonus becomes available from September 25 through October 31 for players who link their SEGA accounts to their gaming platform.
With premium bonuses, upcoming crossovers including Hatsune Miku and Persona characters, and expanded customization, CrossWorlds aims to become the definitive entry in the Sonic racing series.
