Marvel Comics is set to relaunch its flagship Star Wars series in May 2025, diving into a new chapter that unfolds after the Battle of Jakku and the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War. This thrilling new volume will follow the iconic trio—Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa—as they endeavor to establish the New Republic and bring stability to a galaxy in flux.
Penned by Alex Segura, who previously brought us the gripping *Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku* miniseries, the series will be visually brought to life by the talented Star Wars veteran Phil Noto, known for his work on *Star Wars: Poe Dameron*. Both Noto and Leinil Yu will contribute to the covers of the first issue, adding their unique artistic flair to this eagerly anticipated series.
Set approximately two years after the events of *Return of the Jedi*, Segura and Noto's *Star Wars* takes place in the wake of the Battle of Jakku, the last significant confrontation between the Empire and the Rebel Alliance. As the New Republic seeks to solidify its position as the galaxy's new governing body, Luke and his companions confront a myriad of new challenges. Amidst the power vacuum, they must contend with pirates, thieves, and other opportunistic villains looking to exploit the situation.
“Now that we've put the period at the end of the Galactic Civil War with the Battle of Jakku, we can speed ahead into a new, uncharted era, with some new galactic threats, foes, and mysteries for our beloved heroes to grapple with, blending the familiar with the new and shocking,” Segura shared with StarWars.com. “These stories will be packed with action and the character moments Star Wars fans have come to expect, featuring twists on the galaxy and landscape we know, with an eye toward making sure people can jump in easily and with any issue. We can't wait."
Noto expressed his enthusiasm for the project, saying, “Alex is an amazing writer and has come up with some great storylines and new characters for this series and I’m thrilled for the opportunity to bring them to life on the page! It’s also been exciting to draw the classic characters in the post-*Return of the Jedi* era because there’s no existing film or TV versions of them. I get to create new looks for them while also having reference of the actors from the 80s to help sell the look of this timeline.”
*Star Wars #1* is slated for release on May 7, 2025, perfectly aligning with this year's Star Wars Day celebrations.
This exciting relaunch is just one of several new projects Marvel has planned. In February, the publisher will launch *Star Wars: Legacy of Vader*, a series that delves into Kylo Ren's journey following the events of *The Last Jedi*.
