Pesten With Cards, a classic Dutch card game literally translating to "Bullying with Cards," shares similarities with international games like Mau-Mau, Crazy Eights, and Uno. The objective? Be the first to discard all your cards. A crucial rule: declare "Last Card" before playing your final card; failure to do so results in a two-card penalty.
The game utilizes one or more decks, including Jokers. Each player receives seven cards, with the remainder forming a draw pile. Gameplay begins by revealing the top card of the draw pile. Players take turns (clockwise) playing cards matching the number or suit of the top card. Jokers and Jacks are exceptions, playable on any card. If a player cannot match, they draw a card from the draw pile. If the drawn card is playable, they may choose to play it immediately.
The "Last Card" Rule:
When down to one card, players must click a "Last Card" button. Forgetting to declare "Last Card" before playing the winning card, or incorrectly declaring it, incurs a two-card penalty. The "Last Card" button can be pressed at any time. Note: Special cards (detailed below) cannot be used as the winning card.
Special Cards and Their Effects:
Card effects vary, and are customizable within the game's options. Common actions include:
- Joker: The next player draws five cards. Each subsequent Joker played adds another five cards. A player drawing cards cannot play any of them, and the turn passes.
- Two: The next player draws two cards. Each subsequent Two played adds two more cards. (Optionally, Jokers can be played on Twos, adding five cards.) A Two cannot be played on a Joker. Drawing cards ends the player's turn.
- Seven: The player must play another card. If this is their last card, "Last Card" must be declared. Failure to play a card results in drawing from the pile.
- Eight: The next player skips their turn. In two-player games, the playing player gets an additional turn.
- Ten: Each player passes one card to the player on their left.
