For those needing a refresher on the original "Happy Gilmore," here’s Netflix’s summary:
At the end of the original "Happy Gilmore," Sandler’s titular character was finally at peace after a long, strenuous golf season (and a memorable brawl with "The Price Is Right’s" Bob Barker). On a mission to raise money to pay the IRS for his grandmother’s delinquent back taxes, the failed hockey player took his unique skills to the golf course, becoming the most unconventional player in the Tour Championship.
Throughout his journey, Happy formed alliances with characters like the late Carl Weathers' one-handed Chubbs Petersen and a homeless caddy played by Allen Covert, while making enemies such as Christopher McDonald’s arrogant Shooter McGavin and Bob Barker. Despite the odds, Happy triumphed, proving his worth to the golf snobs, saving his grandmother’s house, and returning home victorious.
It's currently unclear how the sequel will revive Gilmore’s golf career, but one thing remains certain: In the real world, Happy Gilmore is a legend, respected even by the world's best golfers.
The project for "Happy Gilmore 2" was first announced in March 2024, with Netflix officially ordering the sequel in May. The film is directed by Kyle Newacheck and scripted by Adam Sandler and Tim Herlihy.
