Borderlands 4 Receives Dedicated PlayStation State of Play
PlayStation has officially confirmed that today's State of Play will be entirely devoted to Borderlands 4. In a Twitter (X) post on April 29, PlayStation announced the event is scheduled for April 30 at 2 PM PT / 5 PM ET / 10 PM BST / 11 PM CEST, streaming live on their official YouTube and Twitch channels. During the broadcast, developers from Gearbox Software will provide new details about this upcoming FPS sequel in the Borderlands series. According to a PlayStation.Blog post from April 29, the State of Play will feature over 20 minutes of developer-led gameplay, highlighting missions, powerful weapons, exciting Action Skills, and both new and returning characters.
Launch Date Moved Up to September 12
Following the State of Play announcement, Gearbox Entertainment CEO Randy Pitchford revealed in a since-deleted Twitter (X) video on April 29 that Borderlands 4's launch date has been moved forward to September 12. He promptly removed the video and posted a follow-up message stating he had shared it prematurely and would repost it soon.
In his video, Pitchford explained that development is progressing exceptionally well, describing the situation as "the best-case scenario," which has enabled the team to move the launch date forward. Previously, during the PlayStation State of Play in February, a launch date trailer for Borderlands 4 confirmed a September 23 release. In a recent update, the official Borderlands 4 Twitter (X) account confirmed the game will now launch two weeks earlier.
The official post reads, "After careful consideration–along with A LOT of meetings, playtestings, and incredible development work–we have made the monumental decision to MOVE UP THE LAUNCH DATE OF BORDERLANDS 4 to SEPTEMBER 12."
Gearbox Software has committed to making this the ultimate Borderlands experience. With the release now closer than originally planned, fans will get to explore and wreak havoc on the brand-new planet of Kairos sooner than anticipated.
