Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Age Rating Hints at Premium Content

Call of Duty enthusiasts believe they have uncovered evidence that Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will allow players to transfer their Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 cosmetic items.

Now that the ESRB rating has confirmed Black Ops 7 will carry an M for Mature 17+ rating and launch on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and previous-generation PS4 and Xbox One consoles, a brief mention in the rating summary reveals the inclusion of "marijuana/joints/paraphernalia: player characters inhaling marijuana from a bong-like device attached to a rifle; player characters smoking joints or using bongs during execution animations."

Many in the community interpret this as a nod to the Dank Days Tracer Pack from Black Ops 6, a bundle featuring various weapon blueprints, finishing moves, and cosmetic accessories like charms and sprays with a cannabis theme.

If these speculations are accurate, this would indirectly confirm that premium content from Black Ops 6 — including its more unconventional offerings — will be compatible with Black Ops 7. While some players are thrilled at the prospect of retaining their cosmetic collections for the new installment, the reaction is not universally positive.

"So all the ridiculous cosmetic items are transferring over," remarked one player, while another commented: "Carry forward is confirmed, a major disappointment."

Developed by Treyarch and Raven Software, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 — officially announced during the Xbox Games Showcase 2025 last month — marks the first back-to-back release within the Black Ops series. Matt Cox, General Manager of Call of Duty, stated that “from the outset, our team’s vision was to craft a consecutive narrative experience for our players, fully embracing the distinct identity of the Black Ops franchise.” The game will star Milo Ventimiglia, Kiernan Shipka, and Michael Rooker, with Ventimiglia playing David Mason, Shipka as the new protagonist Emma Kagen, and Rooker returning to his Black Ops 2 role as Mike Harper.

The game is confirmed to include Skirmish and Overload multiplayer modes, alongside a 20v20 wingsuit option, after details from an internal Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 developer playtest were inadvertently shared with all players via the Call of Duty companion app. An unfortunate oversight.

Last month, Activision removed contentious in-game advertisements that appeared within Black Ops 6 and Warzone loadout screens, clarifying they were an unintended “feature test” deployed “by mistake.” It is also important to note that while Black Ops 6 is a premium title priced at $70, this year’s Black Ops 7 is anticipated to see a price increase to $80, following Microsoft’s indication that new, first-party Xbox games will be priced at $79.99 during the holiday season.
