Clue: Murder by Death looks to reinvent the murder mystery as a cosy horror game

  • The mystery returns to mobile with the upcoming release of Clue: Murder by Death
  • Fashioned after classic Cluedo in an English countryside manor, you must solve a murder
  • Succeeding demands your keenest wit as you navigate two-hour time loops from various suspects' viewpoints

Clue is many things: also known as Cluedo, it's a hit tabletop classic, a surprisingly underrated movie adaptation, and a franchise with numerous gaming versions. The latest installment aims to take the series in a decidedly lighter direction with Clue: Murder by Death.

Clue: Murder by Death features a standard Agatha Christie-style setup. In a quaint English manor during the 1930s, Lord Robert Anderson is found dead in his study. Naturally, the suspects are varied, and it's up to you to piece together the truth of what happened and uncover the culprit before Scotland Yard arrives.

Clue: Murder by Death offers a novel spin on the mystery genre. You'll be given a two-hour time loop to explore, with each character offering varied perspectives on both the events and even the furnishings within the 166-room manor during that timeframe.

Naturally, it's not as simple as simply jumping into the body of the killer. However, the time loop mechanic and the ability to (quite literally) witness events from different perspectives make for what I believe is a truly gripping experience. When Clue: Murder by Death initially landed on my desk, my first thought was: "Oh no, not another cozy multiplayer Among Us clone!"

Yet Murder by Death seems to offer something familiar while also introducing new twists on established mechanics. While it is set to arrive on PC and consoles later this year, a mobile release is also in the works, and given the success of hits like Monopoly Go, I think developer Cocodrolo Games would be fools not to bring it to our phones!
