If you're striving for the best ending in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, rescuing Sam is a crucial task. Knowing where to find Sam and how to execute his rescue effectively is key to achieving that perfect conclusion.
Rescuing Sam During “Reckoning”
As you approach the end of the main quest line, you'll discover that Sam is being held captive at Praguer’s Camp, having been captured by Brabant. Your opportunity to save him comes during the main quest "Reckoning." However, entering the camp to free him isn't straightforward; you'll need to choose between stealth and direct confrontation.
To navigate the camp without raising alarms, you'll need a guard's outfit. One way to obtain this is by eliminating a guard, taking his outfit, and hiding his body. Alternatively, you might find an outfit by looting the camp's numerous chests. Once you have the outfit equipped, you can move freely around the camp to locate Sam.

Sam is located in a barn on the left side of the camp, beyond the open area with a cooking fire. Access the barn by using the ladder on its side and dropping down inside, where you'll confront Brabant. At this juncture, you face a critical decision: you can either kill or spare Brabant. Opting to spare him aligns with the path to the best ending, though the choice ultimately rests with you.
When to Rescue Sam
After freeing Sam, it's not yet time to escape with him. Sam will inform you about von Aulitz, another important figure also held within the camp. It's advisable to deal with von Aulitz first, then secure a horse, before returning to Sam for the final escape. Sam can wait safely in the barn while you handle these tasks.
Von Aulitz is located in the main part of the camp. Wearing the guard's outfit allows you to pass the guards at his door unchallenged. Upon finding von Aulitz, who is already dying, he requests a dignified death. Granting this request is the most honorable choice. Alternatively, you can kill him brutally or leave him to die slowly. Notably, choosing to leave him to die contributes to achieving the best ending.
Once you've dealt with von Aulitz, your next steps are to retrieve Sam and find a horse. Return to the barn where Sam awaits. If questioned by a guard about moving Sam, simply state you're handling a body, which should deflect suspicion. Proceed to the camp gates, turn right, and follow the perimeter to reach the stables.
