Funcom, the developer behind the eagerly anticipated Dune: Awakening, has recently provided an update that's music to the ears of fans eagerly awaiting its release. The game, inspired by Frank Herbert's iconic sci-fi novel and its cinematic adaptations, is set for a full launch on May 20, bypassing the traditional Early Access phase. This news comes as a refreshing change for gamers tired of waiting for full releases.
In a surprising move for a game labeled as an MMO, Dune: Awakening will not require a subscription. Instead, Funcom plans to keep the game fresh and engaging by rolling out free updates that introduce new content, features, and enhancements. The studio will also adhere to a "classic business model" by offering optional downloadable content (DLCs) for those looking to expand their experience.
Funcom's commitment to post-launch support is evident from their track record with other titles like Anarchy Online and Conan Exiles, which continue to thrive with regular updates, DLCs, and expansions years after their initial release. Dune: Awakening is set to follow this successful model, ensuring a continuously evolving gameplay experience.
The game will be available in three editions: the standard edition at $49.99, the Deluxe Edition at $69.99, and the Ultimate Edition at $89.99. Both the Deluxe and Ultimate Editions offer a five-day head start and exclusive items. The Deluxe Edition includes the armor of the Sardaukar, the elite military force central to the game's narrative. Meanwhile, the Ultimate Edition encompasses all Deluxe content, plus Paul Atreides’ iconic stillsuit from the 2021 film, a digital artbook, a digital soundtrack, unique color patterns, and the Caladan Palace Set.
Pre-ordering any edition rewards players with a universal color pattern applicable to vehicles, weapons, and armor, along with the Terrarium of Muad'Dib, an in-base decoration featuring the desert mouse from the Dune universe.
