GTA 6: S-Tier or Not? Ranking All Rockstar Games

Authore: SamuelUpdate:May 17,2025

The excitement for the new GTA 6 trailer is palpable, and if you missed it, don't worry—we've broken down all the secrets and details for you. Unfortunately, we'll need to wait until May 26, 2026, to dive into Lucia and Jason's story. But while we're counting down the days, let's take a nostalgic journey through the Rockstar games that have captivated us over the years and rank them for fun.

Rockstar has been a powerhouse in the gaming industry since its inception in 1998, churning out over 30 games and creating iconic series like Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption, and Manhunt. But which of these gems stands at the pinnacle? Just to be clear, you won't find titles like LA Noire or Max Payne 2 on this list; we're focusing solely on games developed by Rockstar, not those they've published. I've taken a stab at ranking them using an IGN Tier List, based purely on my personal enjoyment over the years. Check out my tier list below:

Rockstar Games Tier List

Red Dead Redemption 2 easily clinches the S-tier spot as my all-time favorite game. It's joined by its predecessor and GTA 5—both trailblazers in the cinematic open-world genre. I also have a soft spot for Max Payne 3 with its thrilling bullet time mechanics, and GTA San Andreas, a game I played far too young. At the bottom of the D-tier, you'll find titles like Austin Powers: Oh, Behave! and Welcome to My Underground Lair!, which are, frankly, better left unplayed.

Disagree with my rankings? Do you believe Vice City trumps GTA 4? Feel free to create your own tier list and see how it stacks up against the IGN community's rankings.
