MultiVersus: A Farewell After Season 5
Warner Bros. Games has announced the closure of MultiVersus on May 30, 2025, following the conclusion of its fifth and final season. The news, revealed via the official Twitter (X) account and website, brings an end to the platform fighter's journey.
Season 5's Finale
MultiVersus Season 5, launching February 4, 2025, will be the game's last hurrah. This season introduces Aquaman and Lola Bunny as playable characters, both obtainable through gameplay. All in-game purchases ceased on January 31, 2025. After May 30th, the game will be removed from all digital storefronts. No official reason for the shutdown has been given.
Offline Play Continues
A silver lining remains for dedicated players. MultiVersus will retain a local gameplay mode, enabling offline play solo against AI or with up to three friends. To access this, players must download the latest version before May 30th, 9 AM PDT. The game will automatically create a local save, preserving earned and purchased content.
A Short but Impactful Run
Initially launched in July 2022 as a public beta, MultiVersus aimed to carve its niche in the platform fighter genre with a 2v2 team-based approach. Despite a relaunch in May 2024 with significant updates (including new characters, rollback netcode, and a PvE mode), the game faced challenges including technical issues, player disconnections, and criticism of its microtransactions. Reportedly, player numbers dropped significantly in July 2024.
The game will conclude its run with a roster of 35 characters from various franchises. Player First Games and Warner Bros. expressed gratitude for the community's support. MultiVersus remains available for download on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC until its official shutdown on May 30, 2025, at 9 AM PDT.
