"Netflix Secures New Sesame Street Episodes Post-HBO Max Deal"

Authore: SamuelUpdate:May 25,2025

Fans of the iconic children's show, *Sesame Street*, have reason to celebrate. After HBO and Max decided not to renew their longstanding deal with the series at the end of 2024, the beloved show, which has been entertaining and educating kids since 1969, is set to continue its journey on new platforms. Starting soon, viewers will be able to stream both new and classic episodes of *Sesame Street* on Netflix worldwide. Additionally, new episodes will premiere on their air date on PBS stations and PBS Kids in the US, ensuring the continuation of a cherished over 50-year partnership.

This exciting announcement was shared by Sesame Street via their social media channels on May 19, 2025. They expressed gratitude for the support from Netflix, PBS, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, describing the collaboration as a unique public-private partnership. This partnership aims to help children around the globe grow smarter, stronger, and kinder, continuing the mission of the nonprofit organization, Sesame Workshop, behind the enduring series.

In addition to the new streaming deal, *Sesame Street* is gearing up for some changes in its upcoming Season 56. The episodes will feature an 11-minute story segment, drawing inspiration from other character-driven children's shows like the popular *Bluey*. However, fans need not worry as beloved segments such as Elmo’s World and Cookie Monster’s Foodie Truck will make a return, blending the new with the familiar.

*Sesame Street* first aired in November 1969 and became a staple on PBS in the 1970s, quickly establishing itself as a cultural landmark. The show's partnership with HBO and Max began in 2015 with a $35 million deal for new episodes. Although that partnership concluded in late 2024 due to a shift in the streamer's focus away from children's programming, the *Sesame Street* library will remain accessible on HBO and Max until 2027, albeit without the production of new content.

In a strategic move, Netflix is also set to expand its gaming offerings, which will allow subscribers to play games directly through the app using their mobile devices as controllers. This new deal with *Sesame Street* will enable Netflix to develop video games based on the show and its spinoff series, *Sesame Street Mecha Builders*, further enhancing the viewer experience and engagement.
