"Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller Halves Charging Time"

Authore: DanielUpdate:May 14,2025

Gamers, get ready for a significant upgrade with the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller, which now charges in nearly half the time of the original model. As highlighted by Nintendo Life, the latest tech specs reveal that the new $84.99 Switch 2 Pro Controller takes approximately three and a half hours to fully charge when using the Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter or the USB-C charging cable. This is a substantial improvement over the six hours required for the original Pro Controller.

The good news doesn't stop there. The faster charging time doesn't compromise the Pro Controller's impressive battery life, which remains at an outstanding 40 hours. The Switch 2 Pro Controller also introduces the new C button and two additional GL/GR buttons on the underside, making it slightly lighter and smaller than its predecessor.

For those still attached to their original controller, you'll be pleased to know that Nintendo has confirmed the original controller will be compatible with the new console system. This ensures a smooth transition to the new hardware.

Nintendo unveiled the Switch 2 during a 60-minute Nintendo Direct earlier this month. Although pre-orders were initially slated to open in early April in the U.S., due to tariff-related uncertainties, the pre-order date has been delayed to April 24. During this delay, Nintendo confirmed that the $449.99 price for the Switch 2 console and its games will remain unchanged, although prices have been raised on most Switch 2 accessories, with the Switch 2 Pro Controller now costing $85, up from $80.
