Authore: JosephUpdate:Dec 11,2025

Sony's latest earnings report reveals the PlayStation 5 has reached a new sales milestone, with 80.3 million units shipped globally.

As of June 30, 2025, this figure marks an increase of 2.5 million consoles shipped in the prior quarter – showing modest growth compared to the same period last year.

The financial results paint a positive picture for Sony, showcasing a seven million year-over-year increase in PlayStation Network subscribers, now totaling 123 million users.

Game sales across PS5 and PS4 platforms reached 65.9 million copies last quarter – a 12.3 million year-over-year jump. First-party Sony titles contributed 6.9 million units to this total, representing a 900,000 increase from the previous year.

After five years in the market, the PS5 is approaching the lifetime sales of Xbox 360 (~84 million) and PS3 (87 million), though it still trails industry-leading consoles.

Sony's PS2 maintains its position as the best-selling console ever with 160 million units, followed closely by Nintendo Switch (153 million), PS4 (117 million), and the original PlayStation (102 million).

The PS5's future sales potential hinges on the current console generation's lifespan, with industry speculation pointing to a possible PS6 launch in 2027.
