The Samsung 990 Evo Plus is a top choice for both gaming PCs and PlayStation 5 consoles. It surpasses Sony's minimum speed requirements for the PS5, with impressive sequential read speeds of up to 7,250MB/s and write speeds of 6,300MB/s. This drive outperforms the standard 990 Evo but doesn't quite reach the speeds of the 990 Pro. The key difference from the more expensive 990 Pro is that the 990 Evo Plus is a DRAM-less drive. However, for PS5 performance, this difference is irrelevant. For gaming PCs, the 990 Evo Plus utilizes HMB (host memory buffer), which compensates for the lack of DRAM by using a minimal amount of your system's RAM. Gamers won't notice any performance difference between the two.
The Samsung 990 Evo Plus does not come with a preinstalled heatsink. However, its newer, single-sided design is power-efficient and produces less heat than older SSDs. This means it should work seamlessly in a PS5 without thermal throttling, and a heatsink is likely unnecessary.
