IGN can reveal that the highly anticipated Hollow Knight: Silksong will be playable at an Australian museum in September 2025. Developed by Team Cherry, a studio based in Adelaide, South Australia, Silksong has been topping the Steam wishlist charts for years. While the exact release date remains uncertain beyond a general 2025 window, fans will have the opportunity to experience the game at Australia's national museum of screen culture, ACMI, starting from September 18.
Silksong will be featured at the Melbourne museum as part of the "Game Worlds" exhibition, which will also showcase the game's design and artistic direction through various displays.

ACMI co-curators Bethan Johnson and Jini Maxwell expressed their excitement, stating: “Since Hollow Knight: Silksong's initial announcement in 2019, it has been one of the most anticipated indie games on the planet – and we are thrilled to celebrate the design of this South Australian-made game as a centrepiece of Game Worlds in September. From the hundreds of sprites that animate Hornet’s different movements and attacks, to the logic behind the game’s most challenging boss fights – and of course, having the game playable in-gallery – our Silksong displays delve deeply into the details of the game's artistic direction and design. We’re so grateful to Team Cherry for trusting us with their work, and so excited to share that work with you!"
As part of the announcement, ACMI shared a sprite sheet from Silksong, one of several design elements from the game that will be on display in the "Game Worlds" exhibition. The image was provided to IGN with permission.
With Silksong set to be playable at the museum from September 18, fans are hopeful that the game's release might precede this date, possibly even in August. The anticipation continues to build, especially after Silksong made a brief appearance at Nintendo’s Switch 2 Direct last month, reaffirming the 2025 release window. This brief showcase included new gameplay footage and was the most significant update on Silksong in years.
Originally confirmed for Nintendo Switch and PC, with versions for Xbox (and Game Pass), PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 to follow, Silksong has been the subject of numerous teases. Team Cherry started 2025 with a mysterious tease involving a chocolate cake recipe, sparking hopes among fans for a re-reveal in April.
