Stellar Blade, the debut non-gacha title from Shift Up in the US, has garnered praise for its challenging soulslike gameplay, stunning graphics, captivating soundtrack, and its distinctive character design.
In our review, Mitchell Saltzman highlighted that "Stellar Blade is a visually stunning and meticulously crafted action game with notable strengths and some clear weaknesses. While its narrative and characters may lack depth, and certain RPG elements like repetitive sidequests could be better implemented, the game excels in its action-packed combat. Inspired by Sekiro, the combat system is solid, offering a variety of fearsome enemies to battle and hidden treasures that encourage thorough exploration." IGN gave Stellar Blade a 7/10, though I personally enjoyed it more and would have scored it higher. Despite its quality, it didn't make it onto our list of the best PS5 games of 2024 due to its recent release (games must be out for at least 6 months to qualify).
For optimal performance, I recommend playing Stellar Blade in "Performance" mode to maintain a smooth 60fps. However, if you're a proud owner of the PlayStation 5 Pro, you can enjoy the game in "Enhanced" 4K mode with excellent frame rates. According to the official PlayStation blog, "With PS5 Pro, players can experience Stellar Blade in 4K resolution at 50fps or higher, with enhanced gameplay smoothness and improved visual details in PSSR upscale mode. Additionally, the HFR (high framerate) option is available, allowing for a fluid gaming experience at 80fps with a 120Hz display."
