NetherRealm Studios, the developer behind Mortal Kombat 1, has unveiled the first gameplay footage for the T-1000, a thrilling addition as a DLC guest character, and confirmed that Madam Bo will join the roster as a DLC Kameo fighter.
The T-1000's gameplay is packed with nostalgic nods to Terminator 2, showcasing attacks that echo the iconic film's T-1000, including its blade and hook arms. The character's moveset draws comparisons to Baraka and Kabal from the Mortal Kombat series, while a morphing sequence into a liquid metal blob and an uppercut reminiscent of Killer Instinct's Glacius add a unique flair to its combat style.
Adding authenticity to the character, Robert Patrick, who portrayed the T-1000 in the 1991 film, lends his voice and likeness to the game. A teaser featuring a confrontation with Johnny Cage showcases Patrick's voice work and culminates in a Fatality that recreates the thrilling truck chase scene from Terminator 2. In this Fatality, the T-1000 transforms into a blob to emerge from the driver's seat and mercilessly shoot Johnny Cage.
Simultaneously, NetherRealm surprised fans with the announcement that Madam Bo, a beloved character from the *Mortal Kombat 1* storyline, will be introduced as a Kameo fighter alongside the T-1000. Known as the fierce elderly restaurant owner who stands up to Smoke and his thugs, Madam Bo is briefly showcased in action during the teaser, providing assistance to the T-1000.The T-1000 will be available in Mortal Kombat 1 starting March 18 for those with early access through the Khaos Reigns expansion, with a wider release following on March 25. Madam Bo will also be accessible on March 18, free for Khaos Reigns owners or available as a standalone purchase.
As the final addition to the Khaos Reigns DLC lineup, the T-1000 follows other notable fighters like Cyrax, Sektor, Noob Saibot, Ghostface, and Conan the Barbarian. While fans speculate about the possibility of a Kombat Pack 3, the future of Mortal Kombat 1 remains a topic of interest, especially in light of its sales performance.
Warner Bros. Discovery, the parent company, continues to show strong support for the Mortal Kombat franchise. CEO David Zaslav has expressed intentions to focus on a select few titles, with Mortal Kombat being one of them. Meanwhile, NetherRealm's development chief, Ed Boon, has assured continued support for Mortal Kombat 1 while hinting at plans that were set in motion three years ago for the studio's next project.
Although no official announcements have been made, many anticipate that NetherRealm may return to its Injustice series, following the success of Injustice: Gods Among Us in 2013 and Injustice 2 in 2017. The decision to release Mortal Kombat 1 instead of an Injustice sequel was influenced by factors including the COVID-19 pandemic and the transition to a new version of the Unreal game engine. Ed Boon has emphasized that this does not signal the end for the Injustice franchise, leaving the door open for future developments.
Madam Bo is set to enhance the Mortal Kombat 1 experience as a Kameo fighter, adding depth and excitement to the game's roster.
