Taylor Swift Exits Wicked, New Dorothy Casting Eyed

Authore: GeorgeUpdate:Sep 24,2025

If you follow the yellow brick road all the way to November this year, you'll discover who gets to play Dorothy in Wicked: For Good - the second chapter of the Wicked film saga. One thing we know for certain: it won't be Taylor Swift.

The debut trailer for For Good recently premiered, offering a fleeting rearview glimpse of Dorothy without revealing the actress behind the iconic role. Despite this, social media erupted with unfounded speculation about Swift's involvement, including parody accounts sharing fabricated AI images of her dressed as Dorothy.

Given Swift's packed Eras Tour schedule overlapping with Wicked's filming timeline, her participation seems highly improbable. Instead, the smart money appears to be on Abigail star Alisha Weir for the coveted role.

The Rising Star Perfect for Dorothy

The 15-year-old Irish actress, known for her breakout role in Matilda the Musical and compelling performance in Wicked Little Letters, has emerged as Hollywood's brightest new talent. Her appearance at Wicked's November premiere wearing silver shoes (the original hue of Dorothy's ruby slippers in L. Frank Baum's novels) only fueled casting rumors.

Weir has skillfully sidestepped direct confirmation in interviews while never denying the speculation. Director Jon M. Chu has teased Dorothy's expanded role in For Good compared to the stage musical, heightening anticipation.

"I won't confirm whether she appears in the sequel exactly," Chu told Huffington Post UK last November. "Every fan imagines Dorothy differently, yet our story naturally intersects with hers. That's a discovery for Part Two."

The Epic Conclusion to Oz's Untold Story

Helmed by award-winning director Jon M. Chu with returning leads Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, For Good concludes the untold saga of Oz's witches. The story finds Elphaba (Erivo) demonized as the Wicked Witch while fighting for Oz's oppressed Animals, while Glinda (Grande) ascends as Emerald City's figurehead of "goodness."

As Glinda prepares to marry Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey), tensions escalate between Oz's factions. Enter Dorothy - potentially changing everything when she crashes into their divided world. The final showdown forces Glinda and Elphaba to reconcile their fractured friendship to save Oz.

Wicked: For Good lands in theaters November 21, 2025.
