Control your device with switches or the front camera, enhancing your accessibility on your Android device. With Switch Access, you can navigate your phone or tablet using switches or the front camera, enabling you to select items, scroll, enter text, and more, even if direct interaction with the touchscreen is challenging.
To begin using Switch Access:
- Open your device's Settings app.
- Navigate to Accessibility > Switch Access.
Set up a switch
Switch Access scans the items on your screen, highlighting each until you select one. You can set up different types of switches:
Physical switches:
- USB or Bluetooth devices, such as buttons or keyboards.
- On-device options like volume buttons.
Camera switches:
- Use facial gestures like opening your mouth, smiling, raising your eyebrows, or looking left, right, or up.
Scan your device
Once your switch is set up, you can interact with your screen in several ways:
- Linear scanning: Moves through items one at a time.
- Row-column scanning: Scans rows first, then items within the selected row.
- Point scanning: Uses moving lines to pinpoint a specific horizontal and vertical location, followed by pressing "Select".
- Group selection: Assigns switches to color groupings. Items on the screen are color-coded, and you press the switch for the color around your desired item, narrowing down until you make your selection.
Use the menus
Upon selecting an element, a menu appears with options like select, scroll, copy, paste, and more. Additionally, a top-screen menu helps you navigate your device, allowing you to open notifications, return to the home screen, adjust volume, and more.
Navigate with Camera Switches
Leverage Camera Switches to navigate your phone using facial gestures. Browse or select apps using your phone’s front camera. You can customize the sensitivity and duration of each gesture to suit your needs.
Record shortcuts
You can record touch gestures and assign them to a switch or access them from a menu. These gestures can include pinching, zooming, scrolling, swiping, double tapping, and more. This feature allows you to perform frequent or complex actions with ease, such as recording a gesture to swipe left twice to turn two pages of an ebook.
