Sony has announced price increases for PlayStation 5 consoles in several markets, including Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. The company attributes the move to a difficult economic climate, marked by persistent inflation and unstable currency exchange rates.
The pricing adjustments were officially announced on the PlayStation Blog.
Pricing for the PS5 Pro model will remain as before.
Following similar price adjustments implemented in 2022, the PlayStation 5 now costs significantly more in many regions compared to its original launch price.
For example, in Europe and the UK, the PS5 Digital Edition now costs €100 or £70 more than at launch (previously €400/£360). In Australia, the standard PS5 has risen by AUD $80 (from AUD $750), while the digital version is up by AUD $150 (from AUD $600). In New Zealand, the standard model is NZD $130 more (formerly NZD $820), and the digital edition has increased by NZD $210 (from NZD $650).
On a related note, the standalone PS5 disc drive will see a price reduction to €80/£70/AUD $125/NZD $140.
