PS5 Price Hike Hits Europe, Australia, and NZ

Authore: AndrewUpdate:Apr 06,2026

Sony has announced price increases for PlayStation 5 consoles in several markets, including Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. The company attributes the move to a difficult economic climate, marked by persistent inflation and unstable currency exchange rates.

The pricing adjustments were officially announced on the PlayStation Blog.

Updated PlayStation 5 Recommended Retail Pricing (effective from April 14) Europe Digital Edition – €500 (No change for the standard PS5 with optical disc drive) United Kingdom Digital Edition – £430 (No change for the standard PS5 with optical disc drive) Australia Standard PS5 with optical disc drive – AUD $830 Digital Edition – AUD $750 New Zealand Standard PS5 with optical disc drive – NZD $950 Digital Edition – NZD $860

Pricing for the PS5 Pro model will remain as before.

Following similar price adjustments implemented in 2022, the PlayStation 5 now costs significantly more in many regions compared to its original launch price.

For example, in Europe and the UK, the PS5 Digital Edition now costs €100 or £70 more than at launch (previously €400/£360). In Australia, the standard PS5 has risen by AUD $80 (from AUD $750), while the digital version is up by AUD $150 (from AUD $600). In New Zealand, the standard model is NZD $130 more (formerly NZD $820), and the digital edition has increased by NZD $210 (from NZD $650).

On a related note, the standalone PS5 disc drive will see a price reduction to €80/£70/AUD $125/NZD $140.
