VNeID: Vietnam's Electronic Identification and Authentication Application

The VNeID application, developed by the National Population Data Center under the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam, leverages population data to provide robust identification and electronic authentication services. Designed for individuals residing and traveling within Vietnam, VNeID serves as a digital substitute for traditional documents, enhancing the development of digital citizenship, digital government, and digital society.

VNeID offers a range of functionalities, including medical reporting, swift domestic travel declarations, and assisting authorities in tracking secondary COVID-19 infections. By using the application, users contribute to timely notifications and effective public health management.

Access Permissions

To utilize VNeID effectively, users grant the following access permissions:

1. Internet Access: Allows the application to connect to the internet from the user's device.
2. Camera Access: Enables the scanning of QR codes on Citizen ID cards, facilitating the quick input of basic citizen information and the scanning of QR codes at checkpoints for expedited travel and medical declarations.
3. Media and Files Access: Grants access to photos, videos, audios, and files on the device to store QR code images, which are necessary for inspections at citizen checkpoints.
4. Notification Permissions: Allows the application to send notifications to the user's device.

Collection of Personal Information

Users provide personal data when entering information, declaring medical conditions, reporting domestic movements, or submitting data on behalf of others with their explicit consent. The collected personal information includes full name, phone number, citizen identification, gender, year of birth, permanent address, nationality, health status, departure and destination details, vehicle number plate, and any exposure to individuals with COVID-19. All information is entered into forms and submitted with the user's permission, ensuring transparency and user control over their data.

Users are responsible for their actions and the accuracy of the information they input into the system.

Privacy and Copyright Protection

The National Population Data Center, Ministry of Public Security, securely stores and protects user data, using it solely for COVID-19 prevention and control to safeguard public health. The data will not be used for commercial purposes or to infringe upon personal privacy. Information may be shared with health authorities and other relevant entities to enhance disease prevention efforts.

Beyond these specified purposes, the application developer does not collect or use user information for any other reasons and will not disclose any data that could harm or violate user privacy under Vietnamese law or the application's policy.

• No Location Collection: VNeID does not gather data about your location.
• Anonymity: Users interact within the community anonymously. Only authorized entities can access information about infected individuals and those suspected of infection due to close contact, facilitating effective tracing efforts.
