A young woman embarks on a powerful journey through time, reliving pivotal moments in her family’s past.

DOT’S HOME is a single-player, 2D, narrative-rich adventure that follows a young Black woman in Detroit as she returns to her grandmother’s cherished home and uncovers generations of family history shaped by race, place, and the evolving meaning of home. Through intimate, emotionally resonant storytelling, the game explores the difficult choices families face when confronted with systemic forces like redlining, urban renewal, and gentrification.

As an immersive interactive experience, DOT’S HOME places players directly into the lives of those most affected by structural inequality. Each decision reflects real historical and social pressures, inviting players to consider how systemic barriers have shaped where families live—and how little true choice often exists. The game poses a profound question: How did your family end up where they are today, and how much agency did they really have in that journey?

Developed by the Rise-Home Stories Project, DOT’S HOME is the result of a three-year collaboration between multimedia artists and housing and land justice advocates. Together, they’ve created a transformative narrative experience that reimagines the past, present, and future of communities by reshaping the stories we tell about home, belonging, and justice.
