The critically acclaimed series *Shōgun*, which swept 18 Emmy Awards and 4 Golden Globes, is set to return for a much-anticipated second season. Cosmo Jarvis, who portrayed pilot John Blackthorn in the first season, has confirmed his return and will also step into the role of co-executive producer, as announced in an official FX press release.
Hiroyuki Sanada, the lead actor who signed on for Season 2 last May following the show's renewal — initially conceived as a limited series — has been elevated to the position of executive producer after his contributions to the original run. Production for the second season is scheduled to commence in January 2026 in Vancouver, the same location where the first season was filmed.
FX has described the upcoming season as “a wholly original new chapter to the first season,” which adapted James Clavell’s renowned novel. Regarding the connection between the two seasons, the network elaborated:
“In the first season, Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Sanada) fought for his survival as his enemies in the Council of Regents united against him. When a mysterious European ship was found marooned in a nearby village, its English pilot John Blackthorne (Jarvis) shared vital strategic secrets with Toranaga that tipped the scales of power in his favor to win a century-defining civil war.
"Part two of *Shōgun* is set 10 years after the events of the first season and continues the historically-inspired saga of these two men from different worlds whose fates are inextricably entwined.”
While fans eagerly await the next installment, the hope is that new episodes will grace our screens by the end of 2026. Until then, anticipation builds as we look forward to more of this exceptional series.
