Nintendo has acknowledged a battery indicator issue reported by some Switch 2 owners, and has shared steps for a quick fix.
This problem does not appear to be with the Switch 2’s actual battery. Instead, it seems to be related to how the console detects the remaining charge—sometimes showing a nearly empty battery when there are still several hours of power left.
Nintendo’s initial advice is to turn off your Switch 2 and restart it in Recovery Mode. To do this, hold down the volume up (+) and volume down (-) buttons while powering on the console.
Simply entering the Recovery Mode menu may reset the battery calibration and display the correct charge level, according to Nintendo.
If that doesn’t work, Nintendo suggests a more detailed process: fully charge the Switch 2 to 100%, let it run down until almost empty, then recharge it completely again.
Repeating this cycle several times should gradually improve the battery indicator accuracy. Here are the full steps:
Complete these steps
Make sure the console has the latest system update.Change all three Auto-Sleep settings to Never. How to disable Auto-Sleep settingsFrom the HOME Menu, choose System Settings.Scroll down the left-side menu and select Sleep Mode.Set "Auto-Sleep (Playing on System Screen)", "Auto-Sleep (Connected to TV)", and "Auto-Sleep (Playing Media Content)" to Never.Plug the AC adapter directly into the console.Charge the console until the battery reaches 100%, or for at least three hours.Leave the console connected to the AC adapter for another hour. After an hour, unplug the adapter and let the HOME Menu stay on for about three to four hours.Deplete the remaining battery as much as possible.Once the battery is almost empty, turn off the console and leave it for at least 30 minutes.Repeat steps 3 through 6 several times. The battery charge indicator should improve gradually with repetition.
If the issue persists, Nintendo recommends having your Switch 2 serviced.
Thankfully, most users will not need to use Recovery Mode. But if you enjoy exploring hidden features, you can also find the Switch 2’s hidden GameCube startup animations. For more fun tweaks, try using your smartphone as a Switch 2 camera—at a much lower cost than the official camera accessory.
