Xbox Game Pass Gains with Indiana Jones and Call of Duty; Hardware Sales Dip

Authore: PatrickUpdate:May 31,2026

During today's Q2 investors call, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced that Indiana Jones and The Great Circle has attracted 4 million players.

While Microsoft's gaming division posted a generally unremarkable earnings report, one standout was MachineGames' latest title. The critically acclaimed, award-winning release has now engaged millions of players. With the game available on Xbox Game Pass, exact sales figures are elusive. Nevertheless, reaching 4 million players is a significant achievement, especially for a modern, AAA Indiana Jones title that entered a somewhat uncertain market.

Our own review praised it as an "irresistible and immersive global treasure hunt," earning nominations for Game of the Year and Best Xbox game. You can read our full review here.

In other Xbox news, Microsoft reported a 30% growth in PC Game Pass subscriptions last quarter, achieving a new record for quarterly revenue. Cloud gaming also saw strong engagement, with 140 million hours of gameplay streamed. These factors contributed to a 2% growth in Xbox content and services revenue.

Despite these positives, challenges remain. Although Game Pass performance exceeded expectations, overall gaming revenue declined by 7%, and Xbox hardware revenue fell by 29%.

So, what's the takeaway? Microsoft continues to face headwinds in the console hardware market. However, its strategic focus on Game Pass is showing clear returns. The growth of PC Game Pass is particularly telling, driven by a strong lineup of major releases in the last quarter—including Indiana Jones, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, and Microsoft Flight Simulator—all available on Game Pass to Ultimate subscribers on day one.
