Nintendo Responds to CES 2025 Switch 2 Leaks
Following the emergence of Switch 2 images from CES 2025, Nintendo issued an uncommon statement clarifying that the circulating visuals are unofficial. This unusual response stems from accessory maker Genki's display of a purported Switch 2 replica at the event. The company emphasized its non-participation in CES 2025, thereby invalidating any Switch 2 material originating from the show as official promotional content.
The statement, made to the Sankei Shimbun, simply declared the images "not official." While seemingly obvious, this marks a rare instance of Nintendo directly addressing product leaks. The numerous Switch 2 leaks since late 2024, coinciding with reported mass production, likely prompted this response.
Genki's Replica: Accurate or Not?
While Nintendo didn't comment on the replica's accuracy, its design aligns with existing leaks and rumors. The key difference from the original Switch is an additional button, labeled "C," positioned below the right Joy-Con's home button. Its function remains unknown, even to Genki CEO Eddie Tsai. However, Tsai did corroborate other rumors, including magnetically attaching Joy-Cons and their potential mouse functionality.
Upcoming Reveal and Release
Nintendo previously indicated a Switch 2 unveiling within its fiscal year 2024 (ending March 31, 2025). With approximately 80 days remaining, anticipation remains high. A retail launch isn't expected before the second quarter of 2025, with a rumored price point around $399.
