Sydney Sweeney to Lead in 'Split Fiction' Film Adaptation

Authore: JonathanUpdate:May 02,2025

Sydney Sweeney, known for her role in *Madame Web*, is set to star in the upcoming film adaptation of the hit video game *Split Fiction*. The movie, which is being brought to life by Story Kitchen, the team behind the successful *Sonic* films, is beginning to take shape with *Wicked* director Jon M. Chu at the helm. The script is penned by the dynamic duo Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, known for their work on *Deadpool & Wolverine*. As the project gains momentum, Story Kitchen is now shopping this impressive talent package to Hollywood studios, anticipating a heated bidding war.

While Sweeney's role is confirmed, the character she will portray—either Zoe or Mio—remains undecided. *Split Fiction*, developed by Hazelight and designer Josef Fares, has been a massive success since its launch in March, selling over 2 million copies in just one week. The game has also been named a launch title for the Nintendo Switch 2, showcasing its significant impact in the gaming world.

IGN's review of *Split Fiction* awarded it a stellar 9/10, praising it as "an expertly crafted co-op adventure that pinballs from one genre extreme to another, [offering] a rollercoaster of constantly refreshed gameplay ideas and styles – and one that’s very hard to walk away from."

Hazelight's success doesn't stop with *Split Fiction*. Their other blockbuster, *It Takes Two*, which sold 23 million copies, is also slated for a movie adaptation, with rumors suggesting that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson might star in it. Although there's always a risk that these adaptations might not come to fruition, the current boom in successful video game movies suggests a high likelihood of seeing these projects through.

Story Kitchen continues to expand its portfolio of game-to-film adaptations. Last year, they announced projects based on Square Enix's *Just Cause*, directed by Ángel Manuel Soto of *Blue Beetle* fame, as well as *Dredge: The Movie*, *Kingmakers*, *Sleeping Dogs*, and even a live-action *Toys 'R' Us* movie. Meanwhile, Hazelight is already teasing their next gaming venture, promising more innovative experiences for fans.
