Gamers were left reeling last week when the eagerly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 preorder date shifted from April 9 to an indefinite "who knows?" This change came in the wake of import tariffs introduced by President Trump, which caused financial markets to spiral out of control. The ripple effect has crossed into Canada, where Nintendo confirmed that pre-orders there are also facing delays, dashing hopes of securing one through relatives in Winnipeg.
"Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in Canada will not start on April 9, 2025, to align with the yet-to-be-determined timing in the U.S.," stated Nintendo of Canada to the Canadian tech site MobileSyrup.
"Nintendo will provide updated information at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025, remains unchanged."

This echoes the announcement made to IGN by Nintendo of America on April 4, although the Canadian statement omits any direct reference to the new tariffs.
Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start on April 9, 2025, as Nintendo assesses the potential impact of tariffs and the evolving market conditions. Nintendo will provide updates on timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025, remains unchanged.
While tomorrow was supposed to mark the start of pre-orders, there's still no clarity on when gamers can begin their frantic browser refreshing and credit card checks, leaving them in a state of uncertainty and worried about potential price hikes from the originally announced $449.99.
Meanwhile, Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders have gone live in the UK today, with smaller retailers such as EE, GAME, and Smyths quickly selling out, and scalpers listing pre-orders on eBay for £500 ($639) or more, well above the retail price of £395.99 ($506).
