Firaxis Games Postpones First In-Game Event for Civilization 7
Firaxis Games has decided to delay the first in-game event for Civilization 7 (Civ 7) to prioritize essential quality-of-life improvements. On February 28, 2025, the developers released a detailed Development Roadmap, providing insights into the upcoming changes for the game.
Set for release on March 4, 2025, Update 1.1.0 will be available across PC and consoles, with a separate release schedule for Nintendo Switch. Originally, the update was to include the first in-game event, the Natural Wonder Battle. However, Firaxis announced, "Although our first in-game Event, Natural Wonder Battle, was originally planned for Update 1.1.0 on March 4, events are now being postponed to a later update to allow us more time to prioritize quality-of-life improvements for players worldwide. We’ll share more details about the first in-game event once we’re ready."
Since its early access phase, Civ 7 has received mixed reviews, with many players expressing concerns about the game's user interface (UI). Responding to this feedback, Firaxis stated, "We are aware of and looking into feedback on the game's UI." They further added, "We're continuing to make improvements to Civilization 7, and appreciate you taking the time to drop your feedback."
Update 1.1.0 Will Address Community Feedback
The upcoming Update 1.1.0 aims to tackle community suggestions and feedback head-on. Although the full patch notes will be revealed at launch, Firaxis has outlined some key changes. Players can look forward to exploring the new natural wonder, the Bermuda Triangle, for free. Additionally, the much-anticipated UI adjustments will address player concerns. The update will also bring significant changes to the Modern Age’s Cultural Legacy Path and enhance AI leaders' ability to achieve a Cultural Victory.
Alongside these improvements, the first part of the paid Crossroads of the World Collection will be available. Firaxis confirmed, "Players who own either of those editions, or have purchased the Crossroads of the World Collection separately, will receive this content automatically with Update 1.1.0."
Next Major Update Slated for March 25, 2025
The development team continues its commitment to improving Civ 7, with the next major update scheduled for March 25, 2025, although this date may change. A significant focus of this update will be further enhancements to the UI, as Firaxis stated, "Ongoing improvements to the User Interface continues to be a top priority for the development team. The updates being introduced on March 25 are just one part of a much larger plan that aims to improve the UI over the next several months."
Looking beyond the March updates, Civ 7 is set to introduce a variety of enhancements and refinements. These include a "one more turn" feature allowing players to continue playing past the end of the Modern Age, an auto-explore function, new map sizes for PC and consoles (excluding Switch), and improvements in multiplayer support.
Firaxis emphasized, "We’re in the process of scoping the work necessary to bring these priorities to the game as soon as we can. Some of these will be delivered as early as April (subject to change), though many will take longer to develop, test, and deploy. As always in development, plans can change and we'll have more details to share here in the weeks and months ahead as plans solidify. We appreciate your continued patience in the meantime!"
