Becoming a Hollow in Hollow Era
You begin as a Soul Spirit. Choose to become a Shinigami or a Hollow. To become a Hollow, break all the links on your chain. Don't worry, a link breaks automatically every two minutes, so it won't take long.
Warning: While Hollows are visually cooler, progressing as one requires significant grinding. Reaching Vasto Lorde or Espada demands considerable time and effort.
Hollow Progression in Hollow Era
Your journey begins with evolving into a Gillian. This involves grinding by killing and consuming other Hollows. Reach level 15 to evolve, but at level 10, you unlock access to Hueco Mundo via a Garganta, making Hollow hunting easier. Remember, Hollows are attacked by both Shinigami and other Hollows, unlike Shinigami. (See our full Shinigami progression guide for details).
Gillian Form in Hollow Era
As a Gillian, continue eliminating Hollows and interact with Hollow Pillars in Hueco Mundo. Gather enough Progression Points to be transported to your inner world, where you must defeat all Hollows three times to evolve into an Adjucha.
Five Hollows must be defeated each time. Inner world Hollows are significantly tougher, but death is not a setback.
Adjucha Form in Hollow Era
From here, choose between Vasto Lorde and Arrancar paths.
Arrancar Progression:
Interact with a Crystal Bush (appearing every 30-60 minutes in Hueco Mundo) to become an Arrancar. This unlocks Hueco Mundo teleportation. (See the list of Arrancar Resurrecciones in Hollow Era).
At level 50, you can obtain your Resurrección (more on this later). Currently, Arrancars use Kendo skills.
Vasto Lorde Progression:
Continue eliminating and consuming Hollows for Progression Points. Death results in a 1% loss of points. Reaching Vasto Lorde requires 800 Progression Points.
Hollow: 1 Point Gillian: 6 Points Adjucha: 4 Points Vasto Lorde: 8 Points Arrancar: 8 Points Espada: 10 Points
Vasto Lorde Form in Hollow Era
Becoming a Vasto Lorde is challenging. Collect 800 Progression Points and all Hollow Items (random drops). Here's a list of Hollow Items and their drop sources:
Hollows: Back Fins (Epic, 5%), Fin Tail (Legendary, 1%) Gillian: Back Spikes (Rare, 10%) Adjucha: Tail (Epic, 5%), Single Horn (Uncommon, 25%), Double Horn (Rare, 10%), Triple Horn (Epic, 5%) Vasto Lorde: Spiral Horn (Epic, 5%)
Becoming Espada in Hollow Era
From Vasto Lorde, evolve into an Espada by interacting with a Crystal Bush in Hueco Mundo. To find a Crystal Bush easily, disable Atmosphere, Bloom, and Depth of Field in Hueco Mundo, then find a high vantage point.
How to Get Your Resurrección
As an Arrancar or Espada, reach level 50, then speak to Isen (King of Hueco Mundo). Defeat 50 Arrancars to unlock your Resurrección (activated with a full Rage Bar, using keybind "Y").
Hollow Skill Trees in Hollow Era
Hollow Skill Tree: Strength, Reiatsu, and Vitality nodes. Skills include Claw Slash, Rock Throw, Hollow Slam, Acid Spit, Acid Grab, and Acid Slam.
Gillian Skill Tree: Strength, Reiatsu, and Vitality nodes. Skills include Gillian Stomp, Gillian Roar, Gillian Cero, and Cero Burst.
Adjucha Skill Tree: Strength, Reiatsu, and Vitality nodes. Skills include Claw Slash, Rock Throw, Hollow Slam, Adjucha Slam, Rampage, Acid Spit, Acid Grab, Acid Slam, and Devastating Scream.
Vasto Lorde Skill Tree: Reiatsu node. Skills include Devastating Scream, Bala (with Ragdoll and Stronger Cast upgrades), Cero (with Stronger Beam and Final Cero upgrades), and Gran Ray Cero.
Arrancar Skill Tree: Arrancar and Reiatsu nodes. Skills include Devastating Scream, Bala (with Ragdoll and Stronger Cast upgrades), Caja Negacion (with Faster Projectile upgrade), and Cero (with Stronger Beam upgrade).
Espada Skill Tree: Espada and Reiatsu nodes. Skills include Caja Negacion (with Faster Projectile upgrade), Cero (with Stronger Beam and Final Cero upgrades), and Bala Barrage, and Gran Ray Cero.
Hollow Era Tips and Tricks
Playing as a Hollow is less versatile than Shinigami and requires significant grinding. You'll be attacked by both Hollows and Shinigami. Use the lock-on button to manage combat. Invest in blocking and the bus teleport. Prioritize Strength and Speed skill points early on. Use your Reiatsu sense (J keybind) to reveal markers in Karakura.
