How to Become a Shinigami in Hollow Era
Initially, you're a Soul Spirit. To become a Shinigami, accept the first quest from the NPC, Hurt Shinigami. Choosing the Shinigami path is irreversible; you can't switch to Hollow unless you become a Visored (explained later). If you prefer playing as a Hollow, consult our Hollow progression guide.
The Shinigami/Hollow choice requires swift action. Choosing Hollow requires breaking your chain; for Shinigami, the chain breaks slowly (one section every two minutes). If you let it break completely, you become a Hollow. In that case, see our resurrection moves list for Hollow endgame strategies.
Hollow Era Shinigami Quests Guide
Your first quest involves purifying six Lost Souls. Afterward, accept a new quest from the NPC near Hurt Shinigami. Deliver a letter to a doctor near the hospital.
These early quests are a great way to learn your powers. Consider purchasing a $1,000 random power sword from the Urahara shop. For faster travel ($200) across the large map, use the bus stop. Alternatively, buy infinite fast travel in the Robux shop (149 Robux).
Further quests (marked with a red crosshair) involve defeating Hollows and Corrupted Shinigami, culminating in reaching level 15. These include repeatable quests, progression quests, and quests related to paths like Vizard and Airwalk.
Full Soul Reaper Skill Tree and Reiatsu
Strategic skill point investment maximizes your Reiatsu. The Reiatsu Skill Tree offers powerful Kido abilities (exclusive to Shinigami).
Kido and Reiatsu nodes increase Kido damage and maximum Reiatsu, respectively. Kido abilities include:
- Caja Negacion: A lightning beam. Combine with Electric for area-of-effect damage.
- Shakkaho: An explosive energy ball. Ragdoll adds ragdoll effect; Fire adds fire damage.
- Chain Bind: Energy chains pull enemies closer.

How to Get Shikai in Hollow Era

Unlocking Shikai grants a random powerful ability to your weapon. Re-roll at the Urahara Shop if needed. Use the Rage Bar (fills when dealing/taking damage) and press Y to activate Shikai (until Reiatsu depletes or Y is released).
Hollow Era Shikai Mastering
Shikai Mastery increases with Mastery Points (earned by using Shikai). Higher Mastery reduces Rage consumption and provides visual effects:
- Mastery Level 1 (1-149 Points): Transparent Aura
- Mastery Level 2 (150-299 Points): Brighter, particle-filled aura
- Mastery Level 3 (300-499 Points): Lightning boost

Becoming a Visored in the Hollow Era
Reaching level 50 unlocks the Vizard path. Obtain the quest at the Vizard’s Warehouse. Vizards blend Shinigami and Hollow powers.
This involves obtaining Hogyoku (1% drop rate from the King of Hueco Mundo boss fight) to break the Hollow/Shinigami barrier and then obtaining the Vizard fighting style.
Hollow Era Visored Mastering
Visored perks include Mask Control (reduces Hollow control chance) and the Visored node (extends mask usage time, increasing damage).
Visored Abilities in Hollow Era
- Hollow Mask: Allows controlled Hollow transformations.
- Cero: A powerful Reiatsu beam attack.
- Final Cero: A devastating overhead Cero.
