The much-anticipated Heart of Democracy major update for *Helldivers 2* is finally here, bringing the thrilling addition of Super Earth maps to the fray. Released simultaneously on PC and PlayStation 5, this update introduces the long-awaited Illuminate invasion on our home planet, allowing players to engage in missions within the sprawling Mega Cities of Super Earth, fighting alongside SEAF soldiers to push back the alien threat.
These new city biomes feature operations that contribute significantly to the liberation of the cities, directly impacting the ongoing Galactic War. Arrowhead, the game's developer, emphasizes that these missions are crucial to the community-driven meta narrative that continues to evolve behind the scenes.
The Illuminate have reached the Heart of Democracy.

According to the PlayStation Blog, the Helldivers are now tasked with repelling the Illuminate invasion by gaining control over strategic areas where the enemy fleet is landing. This new challenge is likened to an intergalactic tug-of-war, where players will experience rapid gains and losses in territory. Players can activate Planetary Defense Cannons to take down the Illuminate fleet, as seen in the trailer, and utilize SEAF troops for support. These troops can operate independently or follow Helldivers to provide temporary backup, but players must remain vigilant to avoid harming civilians caught in the crossfire.
The Heart of Democracy update underscores Arrowhead's dedication to maintaining *Helldivers 2* as a long-term project. Following its record-breaking launch last year, Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani has reassured players that the focus remains squarely on *Helldivers 2*. In response to concerns about the studio moving on to the next project, dubbed "Game 6," Jorjani stated, "Nah. It's ALL Helldivers 2 for now. A very, very small team will spin up something later this year and go at it slowly. Helldivers is our main focus and will be for a loooong time."
Jorjani also addressed the sustainability of content updates, saying, "As long as you folks keep playing and buying Super Credits we can keep it going." He credits the community's support for turning around the game's trajectory after a challenging summer, expressing optimism for the future. Super Credits, the game's virtual currency, are used to purchase Premium Warbonds, ensuring continuous development and updates for *Helldivers 2*.
