The Minecraft Movie has shattered box office records, surpassing The Super Mario Bros. Movie to claim the title of the biggest domestic debut for a video game adaptation. Starring Jason Momoa and Jack Black, who also featured in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this Xbox game adaptation raked in an impressive $157 million in North America. The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which still holds the record as the highest-grossing video game adaptation ever, opened with $146 million domestically back in April 2023.

Internationally, A Minecraft Movie added another $144 million, bringing its global opening weekend total to a staggering $301 million. With a production budget of $150 million, not including marketing costs, the film may already be in the black for Warner Bros.

A Minecraft Movie draws its inspiration from Mojang's Minecraft, the best-selling video game of all time. Owned by Microsoft, this sandbox game continues to captivate players worldwide and has introduced movie tie-in DLC to enhance the excitement around the film's release.

IGN's review of A Minecraft Movie scored it a 6/10, with our critic noting, "Napoleon Dynamite director Jared Hess infuses A Minecraft Movie with a uniquely funny and engaging comic flair, particularly in the first half of the film."

Meanwhile, Disney's live-action adaptation of Snow White has encountered a rough start at the box office. With global earnings reaching only $168.4 million ($77.5 million in the domestic market and $90.9 million internationally), and a hefty $250 million production budget, it appears unlikely that Snow White will achieve a miraculous turnaround akin to Mufasa: The Lion King.
