Anointing Guide for Path of Exile 2 (PoE 2)

Authore: ZacharyUpdate:May 26,2025

In *Path of Exile 2*, like many action RPGs, you'll find numerous ways to enhance your character's power. Some methods are straightforward, while others might seem a bit more complex. Here's your comprehensive guide to anointing in *Path of Exile 2*.

How To Get Distilled Emotions in Path of Exile 2

Anointing becomes available later in the game, requiring Distilled Emotions, which you obtain primarily from Delirium Maps. If you're familiar with the original *Path of Exile*, you'll recognize these as similar to Blight Oils. There are ten types of Distilled Emotions: Despair, Disgust, Envy, Fear, Greed, Guilt, Ire, Isolation, Paranoia, and Suffering.

The most common method to acquire Distilled Emotions is by completing Delirium Maps, which reward you with a random selection upon completion. Alternatively, you can trade for them through the in-game currency exchange or the trade market.

To upgrade your Distilled Emotions, head to the Reforging Bench. You'll need three of the same type to create an upgraded version, allowing you to choose which emotions you want to enhance.

For those seeking a challenge, Simulacrum waves offer a chance to drop Distilled Emotions. However, this method is less efficient than Delirium Maps and requires a robust build due to the increased difficulty.

How To Anoint Items in Path of Exile 2

Currently, in the Early Access phase of *Path of Exile 2*, you can anoint both Waystones and amulets. To anoint an amulet, choose any Distilled Emotion to access the Instilling window. The choice of emotion here is inconsequential. Place your amulet in the central slot and three Distilled Emotions in the bottom slots. The specific emotions needed for the desired anointing ability can be found by hovering over a Notable Passive Skill in the Passive Skill Tree and pressing alt on a keyboard or R3 on a controller.

The skills you choose to anoint will vary based on your build, and remember, this effect isn't permanent. You can re-anoint an amulet by repeating the process, allowing you to switch skills to suit your current build as needed.

The same anointing process applies to Waystones, which can increase their difficulty but also the quality of loot they yield. However, note that you cannot anoint corrupted items, whether they're amulets or Waystones.

With this guide, you're now equipped to enhance your amulets through anointing, boosting your current build, or challenging yourself by anointing a Waystone in *Path of Exile 2*.

*Path of Exile 2 is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.*
