If you had any doubt that *Rune Slayer* isn’t an MMORPG, here’s your proof: it has fishing. And as we all know, if a game has fishing, it’s officially an MMORPG. Kidding aside, you’re here to learn how fishing works in *Rune Slayer*, and we’re here to help. Yeah, we had trouble with this, too, but we eventually figured it out and are happy to tell you how to catch fish in *Rune Slayer*. Spoiler Alert: It definitely isn’t as intuitive as in *Fisch*.

Screenshot by The Escapist Before you start fishing in Rune Slayer, it's crucial to accept the fishing quest from Simon the Fisherman, the white-haired NPC you'll find at one of the piers where the Baracuda is swimming. Simon requires you to catch 5 "fish," and in return, he will reward you with a Tackle Box (we'll explain the quotation marks shortly).
Here's the catch: to start fishing, you'll need a fishing rod and some bait/tackle, and conveniently, Simon the Fisherman is your go-to vendor for these items.
Screenshot by The Escapist Make sure to purchase a Wood Fishing Rod and at least 5 Worms from Simon. We recommend getting 10 Worms to be on the safe side. Note that you cannot equip the bait. The Worms simply need to be in your inventory; they're used automatically when you catch a fish. Each time you catch something, one Worm will be removed from your inventory.
Here’s the key detail: you won’t be able to catch any fish without at least 5 Worms in your inventory. We tried with just one Worm and caught nothing. Once we had 5 Worms, the fish started biting. We suggest keeping the Worms in your hotbar to monitor your supply easily. Once you're equipped, you can proceed to the next step.
How to catch fish in Rune Slayer
Gif by The Escapist First, select your Wood Fishing Rod. You can't equip it, so just move it to your hotbar or access it from your inventory, and your character will hold it ready to fish.
Hold M1 to cast your line into a body of water (the pier next to Simon the Fisherman is a great spot).
Then, keep an eye on the bobber. When it ripples once or twice, click M1 again to reel in your catch. It's that simple.
However, this method isn't foolproof. Often, you won't catch anything, and sometimes you'll pull up junk instead of fish. The good news is Simon counts junk as a catch (that's why we used "fish" in quotation marks earlier).
So, the process is straightforward: cast your line, wait for the ripples, hit M1, and reel in anything five times. We managed to catch only two actual fish, while the rest were Old Cups.
