An ambitious DLC set in space, particularly on the Moon, was initially planned for Cyberpunk 2077 before the project was eventually abandoned. Blogger and dataminer SirMZK has pieced together leaks and files from the game's code, offering insight into CD Projekt RED's vision for this cosmic expansion.
Within the game's files, clues were found pointing to lunar surface maps, organized zones such as an Exterior Movie Set and a Drug Lab, and even a model for a rover. The Moon area was designed to be expansive, possibly as large as one-quarter of Night City, following an open-world format. This would have introduced a fresh layer to the gameplay, transporting players far from the familiar, neon-drenched streets.
A likely highlight of the DLC was the Crystal Palace, a high-end space station. Although it never appeared in the final game, players can spot the Crystal Palace in one ending sequence as V gazes out of a spaceship window. Furthermore, files indicate a prototype for a zero-gravity bar connected to an unused quest titled "201," which was related to the Arasaka plot.
Many hope these concepts could be revived for CD Projekt RED’s next project, Orion, which is rumored to broaden the Cyberpunk universe. That said, the studio has not officially verified whether any of these ideas will be reused.
Although the Moon DLC remains an unrealized vision for now, these uncovered specifics sketch an intriguing picture of what might have been—a daring venture for Cyberpunk 2077 into new frontiers, merging space discovery with the game's iconic cyberpunk style.
