Lies of P Director Choi Ji-Won has expressed openness to developing a multiplayer experience after being inspired by Elden Ring: Nightreign’s network test. Lies of P Overture DLC Updates
Open to New Possibilities

Following his experience with the Elden Ring: Nightreign network test, Lies of P Director Choi Ji-Won shared a renewed sense of inspiration during the 2025 Game Developers Conference (GDC). Speaking with Eurogamer, Choi discussed the evolution of the Souls-like genre and his admiration for FromSoftware’s continuous innovation. While Lies of P clearly draws from that legacy, Choi emphasized that his vision stems from a broad spectrum of influences rather than direct emulation.
On Nightreign, he said, "I've tried [Nightreign] and it was very refreshing and new. So that obviously gave me the impression that they're good developers, they always push their boundaries, their imagination and vision, and it shows. In turn, that for some reason motivated me to deliver the Overture experience as good as it could be."
This exposure has opened doors for future experimentation. Choi confirmed, "In terms of our future endeavours, we are definitely open to any sort of consideration in the future," including the possibility of a multiplayer title—an exciting shift for a studio known for its single-player storytelling and combat depth.
Despite his appreciation for FromSoftware, Choi clarified that Lies of P is a synthesis of many inspirations. In an interview with Games Radar+, he explained, "I'm a fan of many, many types of games, and that variety of different experiences and inspirations that I pick up with many different games I love, I sort of mold it into my own Lies of P experience. In the end, it's a combination of diverse inspirations that I get from many games that I love, and then I'm trying to transform that into a Lies of P experience that I'm developing for the fans of Lies of P now."
Overture Estimated Playtime: 15–20 Hours

Choi revealed that experienced players can expect around 15 to 20 hours of gameplay in the Overture DLC. This expansion is packed with new bosses, environments, and content that the team originally envisioned for the base game but had to set aside due to development constraints.
Describing the project, Choi noted, "Overture is not a complete separate piece from the base game, and there's a lot of interconnectivity between the two, so developing the expansion was almost like an effort to complete the Lies of P experience, and that was challenging."
Set as a prequel, Overture takes players back to the final days of Krat, following the journey of a legendary Stalker. It serves as a culmination of unused concepts, community feedback, and refined ideas that couldn’t make it into the original release. Choi likened the DLC to a Director’s Cut, effectively rounding out the full vision for the Lies of P narrative and gameplay loop.
He added, "When we released the base game, we had to prioritize, as we mentioned, to do the best quality, so we couldn't deliver everything at once because we wanted to make sure what we can deliver has the best quality." The overwhelming support from the community, he said, became a driving force behind delivering this expanded experience.
Overture Not Linked to Base Game’s Final Cutscene

In a recent conversation with IGN at GDC 2025, Choi clarified that the Overture DLC does not connect directly to the mysterious final cutscene of the base game. That sequence, which teased potential future developments in the Lies of P universe, remains unrelated to the events of the expansion.
Back in November 2023, Choi confirmed via a Director’s Letter that a sequel to Lies of P is in the works—suggesting the cutscene may hint at what's to come. However, details about Lies of P 2 remain under wraps.
Choi reassured fans, saying, "What I can certainly tell you is when we share such news or media and assets with you, you'll know for sure that we are ready to present it to you. And that follows very our strict focus on quality [amid] all the pressure that we talked about in the past. So that is the one promise that I can share with you, that when we actually share those contents with you and the news, we will be ready to share that with you."
He encouraged players to revisit the base game, noting that it contains numerous hidden clues about Overture’s story. Choi also admitted to reading fan theories online, some of which, he said, have come surprisingly close to the truth.

Lies of P: Overture is scheduled for release in Summer 2025 across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. While an exact date hasn’t been announced, anticipation continues to build as Neowiz prepares to deliver the next chapter in this dark, mechanically rich universe. Stay tuned for more updates as they emerge.
