Joseph Kosinski is reportedly set to direct a new adaptation of the iconic NBC police series, Miami Vice, for Universal, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Dan Gilroy, acclaimed for his work on Nightcrawler, is tasked with writing the screenplay. This follows an initial draft penned by Eric Warren Singer, the screenwriter behind Top Gun: Maverick. Gilroy has also been contributing to the Star Wars series Andor, created by his brother Tony Gilroy, showcasing his versatility across different genres.

Miami Vice, created by Anthony Yerkovich and produced by Michael Mann, aired for five seasons from 1984 to 1989. The series starred Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas as detectives Sonny Crockett and Ricardo Tubbs, respectively. It is celebrated for its groundbreaking style, influencing television aesthetics significantly.

The show was previously brought to the big screen in 2006 by Michael Mann, featuring Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell in the lead roles.

PlayDetails about the new film remain sparse at this point. It is known, however, that *Miami Vice* won't be the immediate next project for Kosinski, who is coming off the release of *F1* in June.

This timeline should afford Kosinski ample opportunity to meticulously plan his approach to the film, perhaps even choosing the perfect Ferrari to feature in the movie, staying true to the series' signature style.
