Stream All Mad Max Movies Online: Where to Watch

PlayGeorge Miller has long been one of my favorite directors, and for good reason. He’s the creative force behind two of my all-time favorite film series: *Mad Max* and *Happy Feet*. (Yes, there’s a sequel—*Happy Feet Two*—and yes, it deserves more love than it gets.)

The Mad Max franchise, in particular, represents a perfect storm of chaotic '80s action filmmaking and a uniquely surreal take on a post-apocalyptic Australia. After delivering three iconic films between 1979 and 1985, the series seemed destined to remain a beloved trilogy. Then, after his unexpected but successful detour into animated penguin territory, Miller made a triumphant return to the wasteland.

In 2015, he brought us Mad Max: Fury Road, starring Tom Hardy as Max Rockatansky. The film was an instant classic, earning widespread critical praise and walking away with six Academy Awards. While the most recent entry, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, didn’t dominate the box office quite like its predecessor, I still firmly believe Mad Max stands as one of the greatest action franchises ever made.

With Fury Road celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, there's no better time to dive into or revisit the entire saga. Here's your guide to where you can stream and purchase all the Mad Max movies online.

George Miller has directed five Mad Max films so far, including Furiosa. As of now, only two of them are available to stream: the original Mad Max (1979) and the latest installment, Furiosa. Both happen to be streaming on HBO Max—which makes for an interesting contrast between the humble beginning and the ambitious prequel.

For the rest of the films, you’ll need to go the pay-per-view route via platforms like Amazon Prime Video. Alternatively, if you're a collector or prefer physical media, high-quality Blu-ray editions are widely available.

How to Watch the Mad Max Movies in Order

To experience the Mad Max saga chronologically, follow this viewing order:

  1. Mad Max (1979)
  2. Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior (1981)
  3. Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (1985)
  4. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (2024)
  5. Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)

However, I personally recommend saving Furiosa for last. As a compelling prequel, many of its emotional beats resonate more deeply when you’ve already seen Fury Road and understand the world and characters it builds upon.

Future of the Mad Max Franchise

George Miller once suggested that the future of Mad Max would depend largely on how Furiosa performed. Unfortunately, the film underperformed at the box office, which may delay any immediate plans for new entries.

Still, there is hope. Deadline reported that Miller already has a script ready for another Mad Max movie. This is likely referring to The Wasteland, a rumored follow-up to Fury Road. While the director has other projects lined up, fans haven't given up on the possibility of another big-budget, high-octane journey through the apocalypse.

Let’s just hope the studios are willing to invest in what will undoubtedly be another cinematic spectacle. It might not be coming soon—but if George Miller has anything to say about it, the wasteland isn’t done with us yet.
