Alienware Slashes Prices on RTX 4090 Gaming PCs

Authore: CalebUpdate:May 20,2025

The GeForce RTX 4090, though a generation older than the latest Blackwell 50 series GPUs, remains one of the most powerful graphics cards available today. It surpasses the performance of the RTX 5080, RTX 4080 Super, Radeon RX 9070 XT, and RX 7900 XTX. Only the RTX 5090, which is notoriously difficult to find without a significant markup, outshines it.

As the RTX 4090 has been discontinued, finding one is becoming increasingly challenging. However, Dell offers two prebuilt gaming PC models that can be equipped with this powerhouse GPU at competitive prices. The Alienware Aurora R16, starting at $2,999.99, and the Dell Tower Plus, starting at $2,849.99, are currently the best-priced options for an RTX 4090-equipped gaming PC. Many other manufacturers, including Lenovo and HP, have stopped offering RTX 4090 prebuilt systems.

$2,999.99 at Alienware

This Alienware Aurora R16 is equipped with an Intel Core Ultra 7 265F CPU, a GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, 16GB of DDR5-5200MHz RAM, and a 1TB NVMe SSD. The CPU can be upgraded to an Intel Core Ultra 9 285K, though this is unnecessary for gaming as higher resolutions are typically GPU-bound. The Intel Core Ultra 7 265F boasts a max turbo frequency of 5.3GHz and 20 cores, cooled by a robust 240mm all-in-one liquid cooler. The system is powered by a 1,000W 80PLUS Platinum power supply.

This Dell Tower Plus offers similar specs: an Intel Core Ultra 7 265F CPU, a GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, 16GB of DDR5-5200MHz RAM, and a 1TB NVMe SSD. Upgrading the processor to the Intel Core Ultra 7 285K for an additional $100 is recommended as it enhances cooling from standard to advanced air cooling, supporting a 125W TDP. The system is powered by a 1,000W 80PLUS Platinum power supply.

How does the RTX 4090 stack up against current cards?

The RTX 4090 is the most powerful GPU in the RTX 40 series. Only the RTX 5090, with its $2,000 MSRP, offers superior performance. The RTX 4090 can handle 4K gaming at over 60fps with all settings maxed out and ray tracing enabled, especially with DLSS support. The only feature it struggles with is path tracing, which is rarely used outside of benchmarks and social media showcases. For most gamers, the RTX 4090's performance is more than sufficient, making the RTX 5090's additional power somewhat redundant.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 GPU Review by Chris Coke

"The RTX 4090 may be large and pricey, but its performance is unparalleled. It's the only new generation card currently available, so comparisons are limited to older models. With its impressive specs and DLSS 3 AI capabilities, the $1,599 price tag seems justified for the exceptional frame rates it delivers."

$2,399.99 at Alienware

Dell offers an Alienware Aurora R16 with the new GeForce RTX 5080 GPU for $2,499.99. The RTX 5080, one of the new Blackwell GPUs, is scarce. According to Jackie's review of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 FE, "For those with recent high-end graphics cards, the RTX 5080 may not be worth the upgrade due to its marginal performance improvement over the RTX 4080. However, for gamers upgrading from older cards, the RTX 5080 offers a significant boost, especially with Nvidia's AI enhancements."
